Hello,

Don't know if I shall share there or not.

This is a tribute from BERNEVAL-le-GRAND ( Seine-Maritime, Normandy ) N°3 Cdo operation Flodden 19 08 1942
to Jim CLINTON, Fred WALKER and John WHITE All N°3 Cdo vétérans.
Who came each year to remember their comrades.

So, the Mayor and Council decided to display these plaques to remember them.

Hello

Since I was a teenager, I thought I hope one day someone could display a plaque to remember Pat PORTEOUS VC N°4 Cdo R.A. action the 19th august 1942 in Operation Cauldron.
Years after years attending cérémonies of Commandos there, nothing has been done for that. Any words in différents Mayors speeches.

So, last year, I asked to the Mayor of Sainte-Marguerite-sur-mer, about the plaque for Pat PORTEOUS VC. After reunion with Council, he was agree.

With help from War vétérans association of Ste-Marguerite, The Vétérans Commando Association, The Victoria Cross Association, The Royal Artillery Association and Association JE ME SOUVIENS from Dieppe.
The plaque has been displayed last 20th august 2017.

Charmian, Pat PORTEOUS's daughter was there, several N°4 Cdo relatives attending too. Fred DAVIES standard Bearer, and 29 cdo R.A. Honour Guard.

It was a great day !!! and I think a good week-end for all 4 cdo kids. The Monday, we were invited to the Mayor's house, ( which is historic area ) but this is an other story.....

Thanks to alll !!!!

Hello to all.

Went few days ago in Hermanville sur mer cemetery and saw Joe VERNON's headstone, with the wooden cross with his photo on.
And was surprise to see, than you're looking information about him.

Will see in different photos I have if I could recognise him.

For information on D.Day 3 cdo, embarked on LCI(s) 284-512, 285-509, 286-535, 287-538, 288-501

6 Troop was in LCI 285-509. with men of 10 IA and 6th airborne division.

The LCI 509 was hit at sea by mortar shells. 20 men were killed. 2 wounded.

Best wishes

Hello from Normandy.

Looking for any relatives of Patrick PORTEOUS VC N°4 Cdo.

I plan to display a plaque in his memory in Ste-Marguerite-sur-mer ( N°4 Cdo Square ) next August for the 75th Anniversary of DIEPPE Raid.

It will be great if someone of his family could be there.

So, if someone, could help, it will be so fine.

Best Wishes

Stéphane

Rest In Peace, Dear Bert. It was great to be your friend over the years. I will recall for ever our last meeting, last 7th june 2014 in Merville Battery, with the lovely lunch with all your family and friends. At the same place 70 years ago, you was taken prisoner.

You're gone Bert, but will stay in touch with Carol and John, your children.

I'll keep, like a treasure, the lovely words you write In my "golden" book.

Goodbye, BERT.
