Hi all,
I'm looking for any info about my grandad William Henry Pittson (born 22/03/17) now deceased.
I know he was a grenadier guard and after commando training in Scotland was at the Dieppe landings, after that I know he was in North Africa where he was badly wounded. I believe he was a Sargeant.
I've been scouring through lists of soldiers at Dieppe and I can't find anything.
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Ed Pittson

Hi Ed and welcome to our Archive.
Unfortunately At this stage I cannot personally find any information about your Grandfather. I hope others do. However this is not unusual as our records are not complete. This does mean that you are going to have to do a bit more research yourself to find more information. We have quite strict guidelines in place before entering a name on any of our nominal rolls or gallery so do you have any documents confirming your Grandad's service in the Commandos? Any photos with commando insignia, or letters mentioning ssuch service ? Have you checked with extended family to see what information they may have ? I have deleted your other repeat post in a different forum as any replies should be on the one forum message rather than spread across different ones. Look forward to hearing back from you.

Ed,
I have found 2617040 Cpl W.H Pittson serving with the 5th Grenadier Guards. He was wounded in action on the 27th April 1943 in North Africa.

Thanks Guys
That's good advice, I will ask my uncle what he knows when I next see him and write it down for once.
Thanks for the wounded info date Guy.
