Hi Nigel,
Welcome to the CVA Website & Forums. I'm pleased to say we have got your grandfather listed on the No.3 Commando nominal roll (although we don't have his service number).
To be honest, all we can really tell you about your grandfather is general information about where no.3 Commando fought etc. We don't have detailed information about individuals. So it depends first of all on what you know and what you want to find out.
Are you aware that you are able to apply to the MoD for a copy of his handwritten Service Record? This gives you details of when he joined up, training, postings, promotions (and demotions), conversion to commando, overseas drafts, woundings, hospitalisation, medal entitlement and demob.
The MoD charge a £30 administration fee but I always recommend that families apply for the records. Once you have them then you can build on the information that we can provide and get a much clearer picture of what your grandfather did and experienced during the war.
Should you wish to follow that route, I can forward the relevant forms to you.
Have you had a browse through the No.3 Commando sub-album in our Gallery? Although we don't have any photos that are labelled with his name, it is possible that you or your family may spot him on one or more of the photos - if you do can you let us know so we can identify him.
You might even have some photos of him that you'd be prepared for us to display alongside his brothers-in-arms?

Anyway, now you've touched base then we can start working together.
You may also be interested in meeting some of us at our annual Summer Service on 26th June at the CVA Commando Memorial in the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas Staffs.

L/Cpl Boxall was listed as an equipment repairer attached to the Head Quarters Troop of 3 Commando in November 1943.
