Hi Andy

Thank you for providing the pages from the War Diary. I have now updated our archive with the entry below for Lieutenant Richard Babington Jones and will add the details of other officers mentioned where we do not have a record already.

It is with much sadness that we advise you of the recent death on 15 November 2022 of Joseph William Millard aged 103 who served as a Private in No.3 Commando. Our sincere condolences to his daughter Becky and all Joe's family and friends.

Rest in peace Joe.

Hi Maarten

Thank you for the photo which I will add to our gallery soon. Can you advise me are you related in any way to Lieutenant Jackson RM ?

Pete
For some time now this has been bugging me. Every time I put an apostrophe in a word it would automatically convert to a question mark in the post, eg. it's becomes it?s. Checking the internet it's not just on this forum. Well I have found one way that seems to work when using an iPad.

On IPad Settings go to General, then Keyboard, then turn off Smart Punctuation.
Hi Vicki

That's a lovely letter that encompasses what all soldiers, sailors, airmen, their families, friends, and loved ones must have been thinking. If you wish please do the following. Take a high resolution photo of the actual letter and email it to me via the email link below I will then add it to the page we have for your Grandpa.

Pete
Jackie without seeing the page my thought would be Class 'A' may well be referring to his release from service to the Reserve List based on fitness. Age and Service Groups would also be shown as A&SG or A&G with a number. Troop numbers are unlikely to be shown on Service Records.

Hi Vicki

I have added the photo to the No.5 Commando gallery and it is currently on page 2. View that page here: https://gallery.commandoveterans.org/cdoGallery/v/units/5/?g2_page=2

I have also updated the archive here: https://www.commandoveterans.org/SidneyKlus_5Commando

If you wish to provide provide your last name I will add it to you forename on the credit.

Pete
Hi Vicki,

I had seen that one when I checked and he has a different service number so I do not think that is him. I think that relates to a Zenon Klus. If you are logged in to Find My Past you will find your grandfather and all his family in the The 1939 Register on there. Its a very useful resource. Thanks for the photo which I will add to the archive.

Pete
Are you talking about Find My Past or Ancestry or some other site. Do not pay anything at this time.
We have your grandfather listed in our nominal roll for No.5 and No.3 however I cannot find any source relating to why he is included on the No.3 Commando nominal roll and I believe this may be an error and should actually be 3 Commando Brigade of which No.5 Commando was part of, as with when it was merged with No.1 Commando to form 1/5 Commando. Unfortunately we do not have access to official service records so cannot check but they should clear this up. Families can apply for Service Records themselves but I should point out there are long delays at present. Have a read of our page here with particular note of the October 2022 important update: https://www.commandoveterans.org/ServiceRecords

The Bunny Edwards you refer to may be Corporal Ronald Edwards who died in service in 1946. Read more here:
