Just wondering if anyone has any info of the time and location for this book with signatures from Commando personal. The Book is Titled " The War and Revolution of The Peoples Republic of Yugoslavia". My cousin ( Fred Mather's daughter) has recently acquired this and although we have quite a lot of info on 2 Commando this one is a bit of a mystery. There are quite a few forum names in the signatures at the back, including my uncle and Auntie, Ernie and Helen Mather, but strangely no Fred Mather. If the sleuths on here can let us know we would be most grateful.
Hi Andy,
Just another update for you concerning Bob Craig. If you look in the picture in the 2 Commando section, 4Troop,SOE base,Monopoli, Italy, Bob is in the back row, 5 places in from the right hand side.

Cheers

********** Thanks Trevor and thank you to Fred. Photo updated 23/6/10 with above details by Pete R. *****
Hi Colin,
I will ask Fred on my next visit and try and get some info for you.
cheers,
Trevor
Sorry Andy, it is extreme right, not concentrating enough
Hi Guys,
In the picture in the 2 Commando gallery, 'Syd Lampkin and others unknown', extreme left commando is Bob Craig, courtesy of Fred! )
Showed the picture to my Uncle Fred Mather, and he seems to think that the guy with his foot on the truck is Ron Crippen, the RQMS of 2 Commando.
Hi Andy,
Just been up to see my Uncle, Fred Mather and the name you want is L/cpl Robert (Bob) Craig.
He came in with the police contingent and was from the Hartlepool Police in County Durham.
He was on the Specialist 80mm Heavy Mortar Teams in 4 Troop,2 Commando.
A really good down to earth chap according to Fred. He died around about 2002/03.
If you look on the panorama of 2Cdo he is standing next to Fred on the third row at position 77.

Cheers,
Trevor and Fred
Hi There,
I will be seeing my Uncle, Fred Mather at the weekend who was in 4 troop, and will ask him if he has any info on your Grandfather.
best of luck in the meantime.

cheers,
Trevor
Hi folks,
I noticed in the gallery that there is the panorama of 2Cdo in 1945, Fred also had this picture, although rather the worse for wear as it had been rolled up for quite a few years and was cracked and marked etc.
Anyway, I scanned it and a mate of mine did quite a bit on it for me with photoshop to try and restore it and I'm pleased with the results.
I sent it to a specialist company to reprint and had it framed for Fred.
I enclose it for anyone else to do likewise :)
Anyway, a bit of info on the picture from Fred;
It was taken at a camp in Basingstoke and featured men from 2, 3 and 4 Cdo. plus new recruits as they were getting ready to go to Japan for the invasion.
I,m sure there were a few relieved guys when the A bombs went off and the invasion was not needed

cheers,
Trevor
Hi Stephen,
Fred can only remember that the middle picture was in the early seventies, but he can't recall the years of the other 2, hopefully someone will be able to help out on that front.
They are all of 2 Cdo.

cheers,
trevor
Hi Folks,

Have some photo's again from Fred of Commando Association meetings and would be grateful if anyone recognises any faces. The pictures were taken in various years at Porchester Hall, London.
For some reason the 2 files above failed to attach, will try again!
Here's one more while I'm online!

Rear-Ken McAllister( TSM)-Sandy Seaton(RSM)- Pete Moreland TSM

Just an update on the Arthur Wardle photo, this was taken at Eglington Terrace Ayr, at the temporary HQ.
While I'm on here, I have another picture from Fred, only one guy he can't remember the name of and he is at the extreme right of the picture.

Left to right-Sgt Welburn(Pod)-Affleck-Fred Mather-Ernie Mather-John Mavin-Unknown from Intelligence section

Another picture from Ayr of 4Troop, 2 Cdo, early spring 1941, Privates Edwards-Docker- Mason.
