What was your grandfather's full name and date and city of birth if known. Being Hungarian my initial thought was that if he had served as a commando in No.10 (Inter-Allied) Commando it would have been in 3 Troop, also known as 'X' Troop. Feel free to provide as much detail as is known about him. Did he settle in the UK after the war or return to Hungary, etc, etc.

Hi Pete,

His name was Ferenc Piskor (known as Frank Piskor) in the UK. And he immediately settled in the UK post WW2, he was Born in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary.

We was naturalised as a UK citizen, I have the paperwork. But we have no mention of army service. And the photos are missing.
Hello All,

I learnt yesterday after speaking with my cousin that my Grandfather of Hungarian origin worked with the British army, he also helped liberating a concentration camp in Austria. I googled around as I had understood that the Hungarians were on the side of the Nazi's but then found an article relating to the British Army's No. 10 (Inter-Allied) Commando which led me to a photo on this site.

The man on the bottom row second in from the right looks exactly like my grandfather, it's hard to say for certain but we think he was a member of 7 Yugoslavian Troop No 10 Inter Allied Commando.

Is there any possibility of getting any records of the names of these people to validate it was my grandfather?.

My dad remembers seeing a picture of him in his uniform, with a star on his hat. But he can't be sure. My grandfather always claimed he was a chef in the army, but he went never reveal any information and never wanted to discuss the subject.
