Members may be interested in my newly-published thriller The Danger of Life which is set largely at the Commando Basic Training Centre at Achnacarry in late 1942.

The character and the history of the area play a large part in the novel; and the events of 1942 are linked back to the role played by Clan Cameron in the final Jacobite rising, two centuries earlier.

The Danger of Life was published earlier this month by the independent Edinburgh-based publisher Fledgling Press. You can find out more about it from this page on my website: http://www.kenlussey.com/dol/index.html

The website also has an article in which I explain how my long-standing fascination with the story of the commandos who trained in Lochaber can be traced back to an ill-fated hitch-hiking expedition in August 1977: http://www.kenlussey.com/dol/commandos.html

There are two excerpts from the novel on the website. The first is from the prologue and describes the murder at Achnacarry which forms the focal point for much of the book: http://www.kenlussey.com/dol/excerpt1.html

The second excerpt witnesses an opposed night landing using live ammunition on Loch Lochy. It is intended to give readers a sense of the training experienced by those who volunteered to become commandos: http://www.kenlussey.com/dol/excerpt2.html

With thanks to Nick Collins for permission to make this post.
