Rest in Peace Reg.

Dear All,

Many thanks for your kind blessings for wee Eilish and family.

Mother and child are doing very well and we are both enjoying the new and enjoyable challenges of parenthood.

We may also call upon the services of the Commando Babysitting Regiment before too long :D

Thankyou all and see you soon in FW!

It was a real honour to have met Frank in Fort William the past couple of years, where he was only too happy to share stories of his Black Watch and Commando days.

Rest in Peace Frank.

Rest in Peace Fred.

Thankyou for all that you gave.

I can highly recommend this DVD!

The Achnacarry footage includes much that is now commonly used as stock images of Commando training such as the toggle bridge and slide.

And it's all put together with just the right brand of humour :D

This World has lost another great legend.

RIP Bill. We Will Remember!

Rest in Peace Bob.

A sad loss for us all.

The area to either side of Inverailort in Moidart was used extensively for Commando training, mostly from 1940 - 1942, after which time most Commando training went through Achnacarry.

Evidence of training can be found in various local sites. A glorious beach near Acharacle is still known as Commando Bay, used for beach assault and opposed landing training. It is littered to this day with .303 heads and shrapnel at surface level.

Some 4 - 5 miles West of Inverailort is an old house that is still locally known as Bomb Cottage.

There is extensive evidence of live ammo training inside and out, indicating use of .303 (Enfield or Bren), and automatic rounds from Sten and Thompson.

Apparently the roof was blown off in a set-up mortar attack demonstration for top brass.
A couple of mortars were trained on the house and fired.

They struck and the house (which was pre-packed with a fair amount of explosives) went up with an impressive boom!

Top brass were delighted and none the wiser

A couple of sections of bomb cottage are close to collapsing and no doubt soon shall. A few images from last weekends visit -

Mike and I shall see you there Stephen :D

Rest in Peace Maurice.

We will Remember.

Many thanks for sharing this dramatic provenance Andy!

Rest in Peace Frank.

A sad loss.

Rest in Peace Chris.

Rest in Peace William.

That sounds great Andy!

Is Britain at War available through most newsagents?
