There is a website for Royal Navy Commandos and the Combined Operations website. Both excellent sites and very informative.

http://www.relaysystem.co.uk/id3.html

Link to navy commando site.

Keep posting any info some very knowledgeable guys on here.
Look for the book 10 commando by Ian Dear, it might help.
Hard to tell. Peter Winston story is fascinating he jumped into Normandy as liaison to the Paras. Worth a read.
There were several I know of. Inc my mums dad. Lists of Marines in 47 commando in link below. Couldn?t find your dad but worth a look.

Exert from Commandos and Rangers of WW2.
No photos are sent. Will email later. I?ll bet your dad was in 45 oh he was near Belsen.
45 trained in Portsmouth after forming up in the New Forest area. Hilsea Barracks and Portsdown Hill then onto Achnacarry.

Elements of 45 and 46 were at Belsen concentration camp as they were close by after crossing the river Aller.

I have the Wartime history of 45 if you want an electronic copy.
Great photo.

Too dark to make out but never mind papers will help when they arrive. Can you upload the full pics of service papers. Might help.

I?ve messaged the 46 commando family and friends to see if your dad is listed in their records.
Good luck. I did the same and it was relentless. If you can identify the number on the commando photo we can find out much more info.

Once you get the records you applied for you should have copies of attestation and medal card plus various forms.

Keep us posted someone will have an answer out there.
Here he is
There is a list but it?s not all RM captains. The officers in the last page aren?t nessescarily in commando units as the records were signed off in shore bases in the U.K. I was told this at the RM museum over 20 years ago.

The last name of the officers is Joseph Cowley Way. He was CO of Portsmouth division where your dad joined and discharged.

Have a look at this, if you can find out what unit there is plenty of good books to assist you.

They are discharge certs.

I think it would be from a discharge cert
Jackie they came after commando units formed. Great history though.
