I have a First Day cover - Commando Association Day 1 May 1971, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the disbandment of the wartime Army Commando Units and the Laying up of the Association's Battle Honour Colours at Westminster Abbey. It is signed by Alfred Lungley GC
Alfred Lungley (1905-1989) was a Lance-Sergeant (later Battery Sergeant Major) serving with the 24th Mountain Brigade, Royal Artillery in Quetta, Baluchistan. He was awarded the Empire Gallantry Medal (converted to George Cross in 1942) for his actions following rescue efforts after the May 1935 Quetta earthquake.
I am unable to find any information on his wartime services and cannot find any regiments he was associated with between 1939 and 1945.
Is any one able to help me with identifying his association the Commandos?
