I was lucky to receive an advance copy of SAS Duty Before Glory by Tony Rushmer. It tells the story of Reg Seekings who served with the Cambridgeshires, 7 Commando and later L Detachment SAS Brigade and beyond.
The author also weaves into the narrative his brother Bob and also their friend Eric Musk.
From his early life to the end his story is told from the extensive notes written post war by Reg himself so its pretty much from the horses mouth so to speak, the author was also able to access other private papers and reveals new details of the war time activities undertaken. He details the complex character that was Reg Seekings and is able to inject humour along with the highs and lows along with the pain and loss of war. Over the years thousands of words have been written and thousands more I dare say will be written also but these words for the most are unique, there are no experts on the war time SAS as they are no longer with us but this book will lay to rest some some of the mysteries of the past and should rank highly in all SAS liteature past present and future. Its due out on the 26th September and its well worth a read.
