Major General Matthew Holmes CBE, DSO, RM

It is with much sadness that we advise you of the recent death on the 2nd October 2021 of Major General Matt Holmes CBE, DSO, RM, aged 54, who was until April of this year the Commandant General Royal Marines.
Matthew Holmes joined the Royal Marines in 1988 and throughout a distinguished career had served in Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. He commanded 42 Commando Royal Marines from 2006 to 2008 and was appointed as a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order for his leadership on operations in Afghanistan in 2007.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all his family and friends at this time.
