It is with much sadness that Mrs Desiree Roderick MBE advises us of the passing of Brigadier Jack Thomas, a veteran of No.6 Commando and former President of the Association until 2016. Jack died in hospital last night having been admitted from the Care Home where he lived. A regular attendee at Association events until health issues prevented him from doing so, Jack was also a trustee for many years of the former Commandos Benevolent Fund. Our thoughts and prayers at this time are with his wife Dorothea and all his family and friends.

Rest in peace Jack.

It was a pleasure to have met the Brigadier. We give thanks for his service giving thanks for our freedom and also for his service to the Association and the Commando Benevolent Fund.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and any WW2 Commandos who have lost one of their own.

He will be remembered with honour.

God bless.

Bill

As Pete knows, the Brigadier scored a well deserved whole page obituary in The Times today. He clearly lived a charmed life. It recounts that, in his time, he survived "a landmine, a bullet, a rhino and a faulty parachute"! His love a animals also features. A charming photograph shows him in his later years watching TV with an owl on his head. There can be no doubt that he combined utmost bravery with delightful eccentricity. If only there were more of his ilk these days.
