Hi John M

Many thanks for your information I was aware of this information having visited CVA and looked at that page and that told me a few things I did'nt know about Roy.
I was hoping maybe somebody in the veterans could tell me if there was any existing family I knew he was married because my father had a photo of him and his wife.
Many thanks for your info

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission list his family at the time of his death https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2342883/herbert,-roy-george/

Son of David and Alice Herbert; husband of Janet Craig Herbert, of Plymouth.

I hope someone will find your post on here who can help you. Sadly with the passage of time most of those that would have known him and perhaps remained in contact with his Family post war are now deceased. The original Commando Association itself stood down in 2005. A new Association was later formed. Have you tried family research sites such as Ancestry ?

If you have any photos or additional information about your Uncle please feel free to post them on here. If you have any difficulties let me know and I will assist you.

Pete Rogers, son of LSgt Joe Rogers MM & nephew of TSM Ken McAllister. Both No2 Commando.

Yes indeed and we have had photos of him in our gallery for many years. The book publishers were very approachable when I contacted them about photos. He is identified in quite a few images in our gallery. I was asking if his nephew had any others he might wish to post.

Here are just a few from the Gallery.

Hi guys, Jo (George) and Jack (John) both moved to Plymouth as part of the war postings. My family are their bloodline. Happy to chat and connect the dots. Look forward to talking with you.

Vaagso Raid - excellent official video of the raid in Norway. Joe is demonstrating the official kit at around 7mins and 30secs in.

And my old man?s find, and our personal favourite. Here he is giving a short speech to the American public, whilst meeting the President of the USA in the effort to raise war bonds (circa 1943 I think).
Must admit, raised the hairs on the back of my neck having a small window into the past like this:

1:16 in - Franklin D. Roosevelt in the chair, Joe is to the right stood behind him.

Hi Jonny
Thanks for your response we?ve looked at the footage of Roy in America and yes that?s him.
Let me explain the connection Roy or George as we know him is my wife?s uncle her father is Raymond Herbert and he served in the Royal artillery during the war. The resemblance is incredible, we have a photo of Roy in his officers battle uniform when he was a Lieutenant.
My wife had tears in her eyes watching the film thank you very much.
Sorry can you explain the bloodline to us.

Many thanks Nepts

Thanks Nepts, lovely to hear that. The old man only found the war pathé footage a month or so ago, piqued my interest, hence the documentary find which is a real beaut! Sounds like your wife and he are first cousins - I?ll show him this dialogue, am sure he?ll be happy to engage join the forum and add flesh to the bones...

Hi Jonny

Thanks for your quick reply my wife?s name is Sharon and my name is Robert.
We kind of guessed that you are a cousin of hers so her father Raymond would have been your great uncle.
If your father would like it we can send you a photo of her father for you to compare the resemblance with George.

Many thanks again for your reply look forward to finding out more about my wife?s family.
Take care
