This I believe is a rare old pic in that it depicts my dad Bob Mewett (left) No 12 Cdo with his landlady Mrs Lake (centre) when in civvie billets in Dorchester? Can anyone identify his comrade (right).
It's probably a lot to ask but I thought I'd give it a go.
Is there any more pics out there with landladies in.........Landladies are the forgotten hero's of the early commando units according to many vets I have spoken to.
I'm afraid I don't know who the other man is but wanted to make contact with you. I was interested to read what I presume is your memoir of John Harrington on Paradata and would be interested to make contact. My father Sgt Joseph Henry "Tim" Robinson served in E Troop 12 Commando and is named (albeit as P Robinson) in John's list of comrades with whom he served. By the way my father kept in touch with several of the families with whom he was lodged and spoke very fondly of them.
Thanks for the contact. Sadly Sgt John Huntington is no longer with us. I was pleased to be able to call John my friend after 5 years of correspondence with him. The memoirs arose out of that period.
John was a great guy and spoke highly of all his comrades. John also served in No1 Cdo with my father so that was another reason for our friendship.
If you would like a hard copy of the memoirs please PM me your addy and I will be pleased to send you a copy....I am sure John would like that.
All the best regards
John M
