As Stephane reminds us, 70years ago Operation Jubilee commenced at Dieppe. The Fallen and are buried in cemeteries nearby, or in cemeteries back in the UK, and those with no known grave are remembered on the Brookwood Memorial, and the Portsmouth, Plymouth and Chatham Naval Memorials.
We have other forum messages relating to it. For information of those who may not have seen these, I have attached below links to other messages relating to (1) those from No.4 Commando who took part, (2) the Certificates issued post war by the French Government, and (3) Some gallery photos relating to the raid:

I found it sad, looking at the list of members of 4 Cdo who took part in the Dieppe Raid and survived, to recognise the names of six whom to my knowledge were later killed. L/Cpl Chitty and Pte Hoodless both died in Exercise Brandyball, L/Cpl Mullen and Pte Ong both died in Normandy and Pte Donkin and Pte Hooper died in Holland. There may well have been others.

Tonight on Yesterday channel at 9pm there is programme about the Dieppe raid called 'Dieppe Uncovered'. It may be a repeat but worth a look anyway.

DIEPPE UNCOVERED
9pm Sunday 19th August 2012
http://uktv.co.uk/yesterday/item/aid/653281
From what I read today -from a Google search - seems it is a new 90 min documentary.
O'Keefe's research has revealed that the raid was launched as a diversionary tactic designed to provide cover for a commando unit ordered to penetrate German naval headquarters believed to be housed in the town's Hôtel Moderne and to board certain boats in the harbour, all in a bid to steal German code books and a code machine. In military parlance and only at the very highest levels of command the Dieppe Raid was dubbed a pinch operation. The head of the commando unit was none other than Ian Fleming, a Second World War British intelligence officer and the creator of spy extraordinaire James Bond.

"board certain boats in the harbour" intrigues/excites me, as my late Granddad, George Norton Barnes was at Dieppe, what little he did say about it he talked about going after the ships in the harbour. Other short snippets from his war time service revolved around working with safe crackers based on the isle of white and going on raids, "the gang" he called them.

The Spean Bridge memorial was busy today many tourists. I waited till they had taken their pictures and then went forward to the memorial with the Roll of Honour for those of No4 Commando killed in action in Dieppe. I have put the Roll of Honour, an explantion on No4's action and the poem The Fighting Fourth in the memorial garden. I felt close to those in Dieppe when I remembered those heros from No4 and all the other Commandos at the memorial. We will remember them. Bill Harvey

The programme mentioned by Mark above was most interesting.
In Memory of all who lost their lives including over 900 Canadian soldiers who were killed within hours after 5,000 Canadian troops stormed the pebbled beaches of German-occupied Dieppe on Aug. 19, 1942. Nearly 2,500 others were either wounded or taken prisoner.

Interesting documentary, Enigma and Bletchley park feature in a lot of the recent revelations about WW2.
There is apparently going to be a book:
The forthcoming book Dieppe Decoded, by acclaimed Montreal historian David O'Keefe, will provide the stunning story behind one of the Second World War's most enduring mysteries?and one of Canada's most sorrowful moments.
http://www.newswire.ca/en/story/1020629/random-house-canada-is-proud-and-honoured-to-announce-that-it-has-acquired-for-publication-in-2013-the-remarkable-ultra-secret-story-behind-the-greate
Not having visited Dieppe, it was interesting to be taken round the town, by air, sea and land in the documentary. Thanks to Google street view, you can take a wander around the present day Dieppe

Hello to all.
I'm coming back from DIEPPE Ceremonies.
70th anniversary a big event, with many authorities and lot of people.
I laid the CVA wreath at the VARENGEVILLE Battery for N°4 Cdo.
At this ceremony, nobody ask about someone representing 4 cdo, so
the council, the municipality and other laid their wreath and finish the ceremonies with National anthem.
So I laid the wreath after the ceremony was finish.
Peter KENNY ( Jimmy DUNNING's friend ) was there.
He's got two wreaths from Jimmy for the memorial at the Ste-marguerite beach, and 4 Cdo square.
I was surprise to hear at Ste-marguerite vin d'honneur, than only VIP could go inside the room for veterans.
The lady at the entrance told me than I wasn't on the list of the VIP.......
I went to BERNEVAL to the 3 cdo ceremonies, FRED WALKER 3 cdo and Roy CADMAN were there.
But the great-niece of Richard HARDING KIA there, with her husband, were invited by the Mayor of BERNEVAL.
The ceremonies in BERNEVAL were great, The mayor invited veterans, Richard HARDING's family and myself to the dinner yesterday evening.
It was lovely !!
I would like to thank the mayor and all the inhabitants of BERNEVAL for the tribute they do for veterans since all the years.
This is great !!! The commandos veterans and families are welcome anytime, and are there like brother and sister.
I'll enclose photos soon of these ceremonies.
sincerely
stéphane
