Hi Jim,
Welcome to the CVA Forum.
Do you have any other information about the Commando you're looking for?
ie His name or initials?
The Regiment that he joined the Commandos from?
Whether he was a commisioned officer?
Whether he was WIA (wounded in action), KIA (killed in action), received an award for gallantry?
Any of this information will help in your research.
Are you aware that if you could probably apply for his Service Records?

Regards,
Nick

Hello Nick
No information at all unfortunately, only his initials EC, l saw a photograph in the old style CVA photo album and got a little inquisitive, l don't even know if he is a relative. Its just the name which, at that time, was unusual.

Cheers

Jim,
The surname is not that uncommon it seems - here is a link to CGWC which lists 28 people under the name of Creed:

http://www.cwgc.org/search/SearchResults.aspx?surname=Creed&initials=&war=2&yearfrom=1900&yearto=2000&force=&nationality=&send.x=37&send.y=18

Cheers,

Hi jim
My father was also a member of No1, have you checked out the photo that I have posted on this website showing a group of men from No1 in a landing craft having just carried out a raid on the coast of france in Sep 1941. Also I have been loaned some documents by a daughter of another member of No1 and I will check these out (have not actually got them in front of me at the moment) asap. One of the docs is a programme that was produced to comemorate No1's return to to Winchester in 1995 (Winchester was their last home base before going overseas to Burma). This is a very informative doc as it states the names of all those killed in action and the theatre of operation that they fell in, it also lists the decorations awarded and the names of the recipients and finally it has a long list of the names of former comrades who are known to have died since 1946. Although my fathers name (Hugh Maines) is not mentioned in either of these docs I have made copies for my self and would be more than happy to provide you with copies should you be interested.

cheers
Andy

Hi Jim
Thanks for the reply, have checked the afore mentioned docs unfortunately there is no mention of the name Creed. However if you are still interested in having a copy of these docs I would be more than happy to post you a copy (have not yet got a scanner so can't e-mail these to you).
Just send me a private message with the address you want the docs sending to and I will send them out to you ASAP.
Will also send you a copy of the photo that I have of my father and other members of No1 in landing craft having just carried out a raid on the coast of France in 1941. :) :)

Cheers Andy
