Dear Stephane:

Thank you for your enquiry concerning 325315 L/Cpl. William Hay, No. 2 Commando, and Royal Armoured Corp., age 21, K.I.A. St. Nazaire, March 28 1942, parents - Thomas and Margaret Hay of Carluke, Scotland.

I have memories of Bill Hay from July 1941 in Lockerbie, Scotland until Falmouth, March 26, 1942. This N.C.O. was buried, Pornic War Cemetery 1.G.10 - as you probably know.

Sorry I cannot come up with anything other than this basic information.

Regards,

Dear Stephane:

I'm sorry that the information I sent regarding William Hay, No. 2 Commando, was not relative to the William Hay that was the subject of your enquiry.

A review of what information I have does not, however, contain any record of a 'duplicate' William Hay. We also have a listing of 14 members of the Essex Regiment who served with No. 2. The name William Hay is not in this listing.

Again, it would seem that the best course of action to take is for the living N.O.K. of William Hay to make application for provision of that soldier's army records. They are the only people who can legally obtain such documentation.

I regret that I am unable to assist your enquiry in a more positive way.

Dear BOB

Don't worry. But like i told you it's strange. Because I met two years ago the brother of William HAY and he told me than his brother was in 2 commando.
Looking for in my books about St Nazaire, i've seen William HAY KIA and buried in PORNIC. ( I visited the grave )
So, i told him than i've seen the grave of William HAY, and he told me, no it's not the same, his brother is dead in 1997.
Few months ago, He sent to me all the story of his brother. He was wounded in St NAZAIRE come back in England and after return in his original unit.
I will try to do copy of his story and send to you
I've wrote today to his brother for photos.
thank you Bob

Bonjour BERNARD

Comment vas-tu ?
Amicalement

stéphane
