I am the nephew of John Power who served in the Commandos during World War 2. I believe he served with either No. 4 or No. 6 Commando.

He is now 88 years old and I'm delighted to report still going strong!! I was hoping to surprise him by making contact with any of his old comrades and if possible organising a meeting between them. John believes that all the friends and comrades he knew in Scotland have sadly now all passed on, but I was wondering if there is anyone else in other parts of the UK (or beyond) who remember him?

Many thanks.

Jim Power

Hi Jim,
Welcome to the CVA forum.
I have to say that your first post is a little untimely - last weekend was the Annual Gathering of Commandos at Spean Bridge [Fort William] which, judging by the reports of those that were lucky enough to be able to attend, was just fantastic.
Please encourage him to join CVA where upon he'll receive the CVA magazine (Dispatches) and be more able to track down his old comrades and mates...
Cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick

I whole heartedly agree that the timing of my post was far from impeccable and I am kicking myself about not acting sooner. Truth to tell, from the way John spoke I didn't think an organisation like the CVA still existed but I should have made enquiries earlier.

I shall certainly be encouraging him to join CVA and I hope with all my heart that he will still be fit enough to attend next year's gathering at Spean Bridge because it would be my honour and privilege to take him.

Thanks again.

Jim
