Hi I wonder if anyone can confirm that no2 commando badges were always handmade (usually from naafi tea spoons) or if ever there have been machine made?
I am told that all the die struck ones are reproductions.
In my collection I have a die struck badge which looks old but I fear it is not orginal.I have attached file.
Can any one shed some light on this?
Kind regards
JB

Hi JB,
I cannot vouch for the authenticity of your die struck badge but I will draw your attention to this thread on the subject of No2 Cdo badges.
Please see the post from our dear friend the late Lt Bob Bishop MC who served in No2 Cdo.

Thanks a lot Nick
This is very helpful hard to find more reliable information! I am convinced my badge is a reproduction. I have heard other stories from people who have spoken to vets that all the die sruck ones are repros. I can also imagine that it was sort of an honour/tradtion to make your own badge and that they were never manufactured/machine made during the war.
I do have 2 orginal No2 commando cloth bullion beret/arm badges in my collection but not a metal cap badge.
Again thanks for the quick reply! :)

Hi JB,
Those are very nice badges you have there.
I am not a collector but I am aware, as you must be too, that there are some very unscrupulous people trading in badges, patches and other memorabilia.
One trader (an ex-member of HM Forces himself) on an Internet Auction Site was selling V Force badges as genuine No5 Commando badges - when I sent a polite note to him pointing out the difference between No5 Cdo and V Force he became very abusive and told me that they were the same and I didn't know what I was talking about....
Good luck with your collection and research,
Nick
