Geoff has recently posted an excellent picture of No.3 Commando Sgts Mess dated May 1942. Here is a link to that photo in the gallery.

Jack Bakker has emailed me with some information about one man in the photo which I will mention at the end of this message. However when I was looking through the names on the photo I noticed at least 4 who were later killed in action and will update the photo in due course. Those 4 are here (2 with links to their other photos we have), ranks as at their death (not necessarily as on the photo):
In Memory of

Sergeant 3601057 Fred Teasdale
Border Regiment and No. 3 Commando
who died age 23 on 20 August 1942
Remembered with honour at GAMACHES COMMUNAL CEMETERY

who died age 24 on 14 July 1943

Warrant Officer Class II 3856044 Nicholas Wareing

The following information came from Jack Bakker : "On the fourth row from the back, third from the left is De Ruyter. During operation Market Garden he was attached to the British 52nd Lowland Division in the rank of second lieutenant. During operation Infatuate he was in charge of the detachment of Dutch Commandos that landed at Flushing. He died a few months ago. "

In addition to the above although his surname is spelt slightly differently on the photo (RSM Beasley) the following man may be identical and was also killed in action:

Warrant Officer Class I Harold Edwin Beesley
service no: 549217
13th/18th Royal Hussars, Royal Armoured Corps and No. 3 Commando
who died age 39 on 10 March 1945
Remembered with honour at KRAKOW RAKOWICKI CEMETERY

It is very likely that it is the same man. Harold was an original starter with No 3 Commando in 1940 and it is likely that he died as a POW at Stalag VIIIB,Lamsdorf, as mentioned on 10 March 1945.

We will remember them.
