Here is a copy of an email sent to me by one of our Associate Members Margaret Holmes:
"My father was Driver Alan Burcham T/130217 of No 6 Cdo and No 2 Commando Brigade. Attached is a pencil sketch of him done in Molfetta in 1944 by Guilio Cozzoli, later to be known as the sculptor of religious statues in Molfetta Cathedral (according to Wikipedia!). I wonder if anyone remembers Dad/the scupltor/any other sketches done for serving soldiers at that time. I have numerous photos of men in the Italian Campaign and I will drip feed them into your site information when I can. I'd love to know more about what he did"
I did ask Margaret about how the link between No.6 Cdo and 2 Cdo Bde came about and she replied:
"He originally volunteered to Army No 6 Cdo in 1940 and spent much time driving Col Featherstonhaugh around HQ Achnacary. When he was finally posted put into action overseas he was sent from the Clyde in May/June/July 1943 with No 2 Cdo Brigade and was stationed at Molfetta and went to Vis. I think that ties up with No 2 from the histories I have read. We lost him in 2006 but like most of his contempories we never heard the whole story"
I have advised her re Service Records.
If anyone has any information that might assist Margaret please post on here .
