Biography: After 50 years in the TI industry, it is time for retirement. I am keen to research my Father who was in various units including, North Staffordshire Regiment, 3 Commando and South Staffordshire Regiment. He started his army service with the N Staffs in Palestine in 1935. At the outbreak of war, they returned to the UK where he volunteered for the Commando, joining No 1 Troop, 3 Commando in Dec 1940. He took part in the raids on the Norweigen Lofoton Islands and then Vaagso and the island of Maaloy in 1941. In 1942, he took part in the St Nazaire Raid (ML307) was wounded, but was one of the few that returned to the UK. After being comissioned on Sept 11th, 1943, he commanded the 1st anti-tank group, part of S Company, 2nd Bat, S Staffs and landed in the Gliders near Arnhem, as part of Operation Market Garden. During the battle the battalion took serious casualties. Eric was wounded and finally captured at Oosterbeek at the end of the battle. He was interred in Oflag 9A, Spangenberg, returing home in April 1945, just before VE Day.
