Biography: |
Spent 31+ years in the U.S. Coast Guard (24+ active, 7 reserve). Enlisted and trained as a Gunner's Mate rising to the rank of Chief Gunner's Mate then Chief Warrant Officer (Weapons) and finally commissioned at the 20 year point retiring as a LCDR when "threatened" with a tour of Coast Guard HQ in Washington DC. Served on cutters, expeditionary Port Security Units, shore stations and USCG and USN staffs. Deployed to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq during OPERATIONS DESERT SHIELD, STORM and IRAQI FREEDOM. Spend my time now in the developing world working maritime security, border protection, anti-piracy roles. Formal training as a Geographer specializing in Geomorphology and Quaternary Studies. My current military history focus is unraveling my Dad's wartime career with HM Forces and "Little Wars" around the periphery; Africa, SE Asia, etc. |
