Joined Royal Marines on ships 1930 aged 18, Mutineer on HMS Valiant then sailed on HMS Ceres, Iron Duke, Vindictive, Dragon, Diomede and Ajax, wounded in Action on HMS Ajax during the Battle of the River Plate before joining 1st (101st) RM Brigade, at Dakar, A Commando at Dieppe then as 40 Commando in Sicily and Italy.
