Our Remembrance Weekend Gathering for 2009 will take place over the week 4-9 November, we are again hoping to have record numbers attending. If it is as good as last year then we will be delighted. The school concert, annual draw (draw tickets still available from Secretary), Highland Cadets parade, AGM, dinner and Sunday parades will remain as previous years. The Secretary is working on an idea for a visit on the Thursday (something similar but totally different from last year!). We are also hoping to have another energetic display from Maestro Paul Macdonald of the Macdonald Academy of Arms, possibly again on the Saturday afternoon prior to the AGM.

Hotel bookings should be made (quickly) either through the Secretary by email ([email protected]) or pm, or direct to the Alexandra Hotel (01397 702241) or the Ben Nevis Hotel (01397 702331). Rates for CVA members are £39.50 per person per night for dinner, bed and full English breakfast. Margaret at the The Spean Bridge Hotel is also giving discounted rates (01397 712250). The coaches this year will again be pay-as-you-ride rather than pre-pay. We are hoping to have an excellent representation from WW2 Commando Veterans and especially post-war Commandos as the Commando Brigade will not be deployed on major operations. Looking forward to seeing you there. UWC

Weather forecast isn't looking too bad(!) for Sunday: light wind, rain, temperatures of around 2 degrees but, with wind chill, it will feel like -1

There may be light showers of snow on the Saturday - that's the day Sue & I plan to 'do' Ben Nevis!

Sorry to all those who can't make it this year - we'll miss you.
Look forward to meeting up with everyone else.
See you soon,

Nick

There shall be a few of us there from Cdo. D Living History Group and we once again look forward to the most meaningful meeting of our year.

As those who met us last year are aware, we are still dedicated to recording and preserving research about Army Commando training and front line experiences.

We would like to conduct interviews this year at Fort William and ask if attending veterans might be willing to share their memories with us about Achnacarry and service experience.

It is our intention to preserve transcriptions of all interviews to serve as a future knowledge base for our group, CVA members and military historians.

All and any contributions shall be greatly appreciated and always remembered.

We look forward to the honour of meeting you all again soon!

Remembering Tom McCormack, died of wounds, Bill Hughes and Syd Murdoch both captured, all at St Nazaire and all Liverpool Scottish/QOCH & 5(Scottish) Troop, No 2 Commando. Wonderful company & welcome guests billeted with my grandfather in Ayr in 1941-2.
