Posted on behalf of Linda.
I am trying to find out more about where my father was posted during WW2. I know that after the war he would annually visit the Commando monument at Spean Bridge and meet up with others there. He was a Marine Commando and I know he was in the Balkans and I think also in Africa. I wonder if he was in No. 43(RM) Cdo.I have spent hours scouring the internet. My fathers name was Ronald Robertson Wilson, born 7th Oct.1919. He died in 1981.

My father, Ronald Wilson, in Royal Marines Dress Uniform.
I am keen to know in which group, and where, he served in WW11.

Thanks Graham.
Great news Linda. I have also found a note that your Father's service number was EX/ 4193. The prefix of EX means he enlisted into the Royal Marines at Exton sometime between 1939 and 1942 (source Tracing Your Royal Marine Ancestors published in association with the RM Museum).
I have some more good news although you may not find his name but you will find their actions and training. You can download the entire 40RM Commando War Diary free of charge at the moment from the National Archives. All you have to do is register. If you do not want to register it only costs £3-50. Here is the link:

Hi Pete, Thanks to your help I can now browse through the war diaries of No 40 RM. I am so grateful for all you?ve done. My brother has also been spurred into making a search of the family home and found, hidden behind a framed photo of my Mum, a few of Dad?s wartime Commando photos which I will (try to) post on the site. We are both incredibly proud of him, and the many others, who did so much to enable us to have the freedoms we now have.

I'm very interested to see the photos that were found - what a treasure!
I used to visit Dalhousie Road when my Auntie Nan was still with us - even when she lived in Dundee, itself, Broughty Ferry was the place to go. Wonderful memories and makes me even more interested in these posts.

If I have praised my comrades too highly I make no apology, for they were beyond all praise.
