My Dad was Stanley Worsley 45 RM Commando E troop

i have seen a nominal roll for E Troop 6th June 1944 and there is no mention of him on it

does any one know any info on why he is not on the nominal roll

he was a pow on around the 8th and escaped 16th April 1945

Hi Steve

I assume you mean these documents in our gallery http://gallery.commandoveterans.org/cdoGallery/v/units/Royal+Marine+Commando+Units/45+RM+Commando/?g2_page=3

It will be difficult to provide a specific answer to your query. It's not an official list as such but is quite detailed with 70 names. There could be a number of reasons your father was not listed. Anything from a mistake on the list to perhaps your father moved Troops as many did, or if he was a specialist such as in Signals he might have been attached to HQ or another Troop for the landing. With the casualties that 'E' Troop suffered on D Day they would have needed replacements so there would have been some Troop consolidation within the Commando.

anyway thanks you so much for your response.
just a quick one. just found a picture of a Marine called Syd Mundy 45 Commando who was my dads best pal, i think he may have been in A Tp

Hi Steve

Of course you can post the photo. If you have any problems doing so just email me. That's an interesting name as Syd Mundy was with 'A' troop on DDay. I wonder if that might be the answer to your original question. Have a look here:

Yes I?ve seen that photo thanks, think I spot Syd but not my dad

I?ll just have to keep searching.

Just on another subject. Did Marines ever don the ?Chip bag? style hat only I?ve just found another photo of my dad with a hat in his shoulder lapel? Didn?t think marines wore them

I?ve tried to add pictures of Syd but it won?t let me attach them, even when I select the smallest res

Any chance you can give me your email so I can send them direct

Kind regards

Steve

Hi Steve, yes they wore field service caps before their Commando days. My email link is like yours below my signature at the bottom of each message.

Hi Steve

I have now posted the one of your Father alongside the others you originally provided. I have attached the photo of Syd on the card to this message, and posted the photo itself into the 45RM Commando gallery.
