Sirs
I am after some assistance with the information below:
I am researching a John Arthur Kitchener-Tobin on behalf of his Granddaughter.
I am a former WO2 served in the Army from 1972 - 1994.
I have John's Army details:
3960208
Sergeant
Royal Artillery
Awaded the Military Medal in 1944
Served in Yugoslavia
His granddaughter was led to believe John served with the SAS but I think it was with No 2 Commando, which saw service in Yugoslavia.
If anybody can help with further information or maybe even served with John I would be very grateful.
Also I am trying to get hold of the details of how he won the Military Medal again any info or an idea where I may find the details. I have seen the post in the London Gazette dated 22 Feb 1945
Many thanks in anticipation

Paul,
I know this may sound a little obvious, but has anyone applied to MoD for Sgt Kitchener-Tobin's Service Records?
These should tell you, which Commando he served with.

This link will take you to the post with all the relevant details on how to apply (it's easier if it's the NoK that applies).
Good luck with your research.

Hi Nick,
Many thanks for the quick response. To be honest I am not sure as most things the research started with a conversation then the idea.
I will check with the Granddaughter and if not get the ball rolling.
Thanks again
Paul

A quick check on a site called the Special Forces Roll of Honour shows an entry for J.A.K. Tobin in their awards section. He is shown as having been awarded the Military Medal for his actions in Italy in 1944. It lists him as being attached to No 2 SAS and his parent company being the Royal Artillery. Have you found the citation for the award of the MM. That should give the exact location and details. Two sites to look at are the one I mention above and another for the SAS , both links below. Good luck .
