I got info from a friend who has some notes from Ron the former secretary of the old comrades association of Pte Wilkin ER - 14989201 was in No1 Cdo.

Any more info available?

Cheers,
JB

Hi JB,

I'm afraid I don't have E R Wilkin listed on my nominal roll for No.1 Commando. However, as I've said before, it is not a definitive list and it is entirely possible that he was in No.1.

You say your friend has some notes from Ron? If you can confirm that Ron has stated that he was in No.1, then I'll be more than happy to add him to the nominal roll. Perhaps a scan of the notes? PM me?

Nick

With Army Number in the 14,000,000 must have enlisted in 1942 or after.

The service number - 14989201 - would indicate (to me, anyway) the General Service Corps?

Anyone agree?

Nick, agree.
As my posting, service numbers from 14,000,000 onwards began in 1942 to 1950 as General Service Corps. Which allowed initial training of new recruits, doing away with the old Regimental Numbering System.

Thanks Chaps,

I was lucky to get Wilkin's green beret. Cheers, JB
