Hi Douglas,
May I ask what date yours has in it?
As yours is unarguably a 'pukka' Green Beret, is there any chance you could post some photos?
Also, are you able to fill in any gaps regarding the Slouch Hat?

Nick,
In reply to your early missive I have sent photos of my green beret to [email protected] for publication.
You will see it was issued in 1945 and is a Kangol beret.
As regards the bush hat. I was issued with one with other tropical kit before I left HOC Wrexham for the Far East. I don' think I ever wore it and it certainly wasn't a common form of head dress in No:1 Commando.
Sorry for the delay in replying but we are in the throes of Chinese Lunar New Year and I have been tied down one way or another.
I am impressed with your tenacious pursuit of the green beret issue.
All the best.
Douggie.

Hi Everyone
Very interesting...............all of this.
By the way I have posted a photo of some of No 1 Cdo in slouch hats on that topics page.
Just to add more confusion over there :D

Douggie,
Thank you for your reply and photos (via JohnM) regarding your beret and also your comments about the slouch hat - all good information from which we can all form a better idea of some aspects about the Commandos.
Thank you also for the remark about my persistence in getting my message across - 'if at first you don't succeed, try, try, and try again'... [I'm guessing there's more than a hint of Scots in your blood, so I hope you appreciate that!]
I hope you and your family, out in Hong Kong, had a great New Year - I'm sure celebrations are still ongoing - and do I hope that you continue to honour the CVA Forum with your patronage.
Best wishes,
Nick
