"Ends LUCA at 6d per diem and RA at 4d p d"

Ends LUC Allowance at 6d per day and Ration Allowance at 4d per day [sorry, I can't think what LUC stands for at the moment!]

Give me time to transcribe page 9 and I'll come back to you tomorrow.

There was a RM 2nd Echelon, MNBDO II operating as part of the MEF - could be this.

Hi beerie89

I notice from your grandad's service record at the end of 1944 whilst he was in HBL RM Commando, his CO was W W Glover, the same as my father's who was in MNBDO1 and prior to that your grandad was at HBL RM Training Group. Maybe they might have come across each other. Unfortunately, I cannot help with your other questions as I am still learning myself but wish you good luck with your research.

Best wishes

Phil,
Here's the transcript as promised - hope it helps.

Regarding the 2nd Echelon, I see that he was posted to 2nd Echelon then later was posted from MNBDO II so my guess was right.

Hi Phil,

As a young airman - way back in the 70's - I was thrown out of Skegness (well Skegness Butlin's) and I've not ventured there again...

The part of your grandfather's records I transcribed (page 9) is, more or less, a repeat of the bottom of page 8 - just a little more detailed.
I'm still trying to work out LUCA and will crack it eventually.

HMS Byrsa was a Shore base at Naples.

197 Transit Camp was at Bari at one stage.

Another thing thats niggling me is that grandad qualified as a commando may 44 joined 40 cdo went into action sept/oct 44 wounded oct 44 then after recoup in hospital assigned to hms byrsa, does that mean he ceased being a commando then ie left 40 cdo & we.t back to being just a royal marine?

Cheers
