Hi,

A quick observation that you may have already noticed, the photo of your dad with his Royal Marine beret and cap badge is dated is dated July 27th 1944.
On his service record there is an entry that to me reads

HBL RM Training Group (W) 18th June '44 to 25 Feb 45

From Royal Marines Museum

RMTG Royal Marines Training Group (c1942-46) usually one of four camps In Wales

From http://www.royalmarinesmuseum.co.uk/item/researching-family-and-royal-marine-history/abbreviations-found-in-rm-service-records

I don't know if the 4 camps mentioned, are the 4 below and the source of these camps names is not given.

Gibraltar Camp, Llanegryn Royal Marines Training Camp, Basic Seamanship

Burma Camp, Llwyngwril Royal Marines Training Camp, Seamanship and Navigation

Crete Camp, Barmouth Royal Marines Training Camp, Seamanship and Navigation

Towyn & Morfa Camps WWII RM Commando Camps

http://www.airfieldinformationexchange.org/community/showthread.php?6860-Army-Camps-Barracks-Wales

Is there anything on the back of the photos, perhaps a stamp of the photographers ?

Hi Markh

Thank you for the info and sorry for late reply.

I have a letter from the Naval Historical Branch confirming Dad was at Towyn in July 1944.

I will check the photos tomorrow.

Best wishes
