The March 2012 issue of this excellent magazine contains two features on Operation Chariot The first one is mainly about Commander Ryder VC. I didnt know that his 2 brothers were killed during the war One was murdered with the Norfolks at Le Paradis in 1940 The othet died as a POW of the Japanese after Singapore fell. There's a new book on him called A Reluctant Hero: The Life Of Capt Robert Ryder VC by Richard Hopton . One mistake I saw is that Frank Durrant VC is called Dutton! The other feature is the raid itself with a double spread of the infamous photo of Tom McCormack left to suffer with his appalling head wound. Well worth getting

I have a copy of a Magazine called "After The Battle" issue number 59 printed in 1988, the first 27 pages of which are on St Nazaire with multiple pictures taken after the raid. Again excellent information on the raid

It's a very powerful and moving photo, but still a shame to see it so often.

Cheers,
Mark

Remembering Tom McCormack, died of wounds, Bill Hughes and Syd Murdoch both captured, all at St Nazaire and all Liverpool Scottish/QOCH & 5(Scottish) Troop, No 2 Commando. Wonderful company & welcome guests billeted with my grandfather in Ayr in 1941-2.
