I am delighted to report that Lochiel has given the green light for Operation LCA!

This is exciting news, as we now have the opportunity to make a long forgotten piece of original Commando training equipment part of the local area once again.

The Commando D Living History Group shall be organising a small clear-up group that should make the journey sometime in May and carry out initial clearance work on and around the craft structure.

We also hope to enlist the services of a local landscape gardener towards creating a small path from the road to the site.

Geoff, I shall give you a call soon to discuss possibilities regarding an appropriate commemorative plaque. We aim to have this project completed in time for Remembrance weekend 2011!

Good news Paul!

Will the former gun emplacements and the former boat house also be part of the project? Perhaps you could contact Emma Pearce at the Loch Eil Outward Bound Centre for the exact location of the gun emplacements. I have understood that her partner exactly knows where they are. I will send you an email with her phonenumber etc.

Would be nice if everything could be arranged in time for the Remembrance Weekend in November.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the support folks.

Jack, I am unaware of the gun placements and we plan to focus on the LCA structure for now. I shall contact Emma all the same, as we can recce this area when next there.
Thanks for the details!

Thanks for the offer Gary!

Mike from our group has found an excellent image of an original dry LCA in operation. We are not yet 100% certain about the original structure built around the Achnacarry model, but it bears the signs of being similar if not the same as the photographed example.

There are remains of what appears to be a drivers/engine area and door hinge positions. It would make most practical sense to have it constructed with surrounding "hull" walls and ceiling to make movement in and out as realistic as possible.

Well done Mike, that's a great find, and thanks for posting it Paul.

Look forward to seeing the renovation on 'your' landing craft when I'm next up that way.
