Great News!!!! The plans/proposals for our Army Commando memorial at the NMA have now been approved :D There were a couple of caveats in that the hedge had to go and the paved area made more discreet (in line with the open-plan of the area) but we have agreed and now have the green light. The memorial piece itself is now in production at Anwick Forge and I will receive an update soon as to how work is going. We are still working on an unveiling and dedication service on Sunday 29 July. It is hoped that this will be preceded by a dinner on the Saturday evening in the local area, all to be confirmed. We still need to raise approx. £5,000, so please get busy and do what you can - every little bit counts! Kind regards.
ps. Also the Royal Marines Memorial (which will be sited very close by with a mix of Army Cdo and RM Cdo trees between the two) was also agreed on the same day.

Anwick Forge is 7 miles from my house. I actually work at the food firm next to it!
The making of the memorial has been shown in our local paper the Lincolnshire Echo . Its looking good

UPDATE: The Army Commando Memorial is to be installed at the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas, Staffordshire, over 11-14th of June. The unveiling and memorial service will take place on Sunday 29th July. The service will include the dedication of our new Association Standard and the unveiling and dedication service of the memorial, followed by a garden party at the Staffordshire County Showground. This will be a day to remember with WWII and present day Commandos standing side by side. It is also a day for families and children, and 'friends of Commandos', the more the merrier. More information and tickets are now available from the Secretary. Please don't miss this very important day in the history of the Army Commandos.
ps. If you have lost a loved one who was a Commando then do not forget to order a memorial paver, which will be installed with the memorial for the unveiling on the 29th July. Contact the Secretary for details.

Geoff,
apropos the trees; they are, as you state, dedicated to individual Commando units (Army & RM), I noticed that not all the WWII Army Cdo units were represented (eg. No5 wasn't), do you know how one goes about getting a tree planted, dedicated and a plaque placed?

Cheers,
