Hi All
Looking on site here 40 cdo (RM) was the force to screen the harbour at Dieppe but from the oral history of marine Hutchinson he escaped via some gully by putting on a german helmut and running across a beach to the landing craft..In his words "every one else was running away he'd do the same '.I take this as marine hutchinson was in the wrong place or the oral history is muddled

Many thanks

Mark H

Here's a strange one from my Dad regarding marine Hutchinson when he was on the Ajax he was part of the gun crew in X turret at the battle of the river plate .But he said " if you didn't lock the buggers in the turret they'd try to escape" which means some of the marines would be outside the turret during the battle .Could this possible be right any thoughts cheers

Hi all

I have 3 booklets in my possession
1 The Royal Marines The Admiralty account of there achievement 1939 1943
2Combined operations 1940-1942
Prepared for the admiralty by the ministry of information printed 1944

3Hms Fidelity convoy ons 154
by Gavin Fowells

The first 2 list various operations but they were writing at the time so there full of first hand accounts names photos drawings maps etc

Hi All

Ive been researching my dads cousin James Hutchinson who was lost on Hms Fidelity .As you all know a ship lost in mysterious circumstances. But Ive blundered onto a reference on a admiralty chart called Lord Lovats cove on the island of Mull Scotland. It is only on the chart for nautical navigation .James was with Lovart at Dieppe would this location be used for training for the raid .

Yours

Mark H
