Thank you, Nick. We await the search results with great interest.

Paul
Hi Nick,

we have a copy of his wounding certificate dated 6th August 1944. On it is his service number: D/Jx.404947.C.O.
Furthermore, it tells us that it was indeed HMS Dundonald 11.

Based on the little we have, how much is it possible for us to know of his movements and those of his comrades in RNBSS No9 leading up to and including D-Day itself? For example where were they stationed before their Channel crossing and where might they have sailed from? Where on Gold beach did their unit put ashore?

Paul

Well that's a start! Given the date we'd be very interested to see it, particularly as dad was so badly injured on D-Day. We'd always assumed his injuries meant he was discharged soon after.
My siblings and me are looking for information about our dad Joe McGann, born 25/05/24, died 01/08/84. A Beach Commando on June 6th 1944 at Gold Beach, he was seriously injured in action and evacuated. Could anybody provide us us with his service details, name of unit, place of training etc? We'd be most grateful.

Paul, Joe, Mark, Stephen and Clare McGann.
