Hi did any of the commando units parashute into Burma?
Hi Mark,
I think it was the fiftieth anniversary malties medal I have looked it up and found the photo of it. I believe he was in 44 commando? Do you know if they were in Malta at this time? I posted some copies of his service number on here before maybe a year ago and got some good info back😄 but I just wondered what he would have got the medal for?
Hi I am looking for some information in regards to my Grandfather. he was in the RM during the war joined in 1942. he was awarded a medal in 1992 in which he was invited to London to receive it but never went due to being ill. does anyone know what this medal was for?

quote=markh]Hi Joe, welcome to the forums.

I have just found his service number.

How did you find the service number ? Do you have some kind of document or photograph? Would it be possible to share it, as it may give clues, as well as adding to the site.

Have you spoken to relatives for information about your grand fathers service ? Any small snippet such as countries, or places might provide a clue.

Armed with the service number, you can apply for your grandfather's service records from the MOD

https://www.gov.uk/requests-for-personal-data-and-service-records#how-to-apply-for-service-personnel-records

Two short forms and a fee of £30 pounds unless your grandmother is still with us, then it is free.

Then a wait of weeks to maybe a year !

Good luck
