Yes I'm intrigued as well and would love to know what it is... Surely you can tell us? and maybe a photo?

Hi Nic,
It is possible to make it mandatory for users to login before they can post. However I am conscious of the fact that many potential posters may not be "forum savvy" and I want to make it as easy as possible for people to post.
We can however make it mandatory to be logged in for specific forums, e.g. we could make this the case for "Collectors & Memorobilia" forum, but not for the "Looking for information" forum, what do you think?
Good point and I'm happy with your decisions.
The Site continues to improve and the ranks are slowly swelling. Keep up the great work guys - where ever you are

Don't be too upset, Vic, regarding the brevity of your Dad's army records. Clerks who put such things together cannot reflect the admiration we had for the signal boys who performed their tasks so well under horrendous battlefield conditions. I, for one, salute their fidelity to duty which I witnessed, and share your pride in your Dad's memory.
Kindest personal regards. Bob
Welcome Vic,
Wow, what a great reply from Bob - you must be justifiably proud of your Dad.
Good luck with your search.

Dan,
Just me with another suggestion! [don't groan - it was you that suggested it!]
I notice that 'Threads' and 'Replies' can be posted without the need of 'logging on' to the Site, this has resulted in a lot of 'Anonymous' posts recently.
Would it not be better if folk wishing to post Threads etc had to Log on before they were able to post?
Cheers,
Nick
ps. thanks for sorting out the clock issue

Ann,
Do you have any other information ie which Commando he was in? What was his original Regiment? Any information and photos may help jog someones memory.
Good luck,
Nick

Having said that I have never seen one other than my late dad's, there is one on ebay this week:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=170107369457&rd=1&rd=1
Please note that I am in no way connected with the sale of this item - I'm just trying to help anyone who may be interested in genuine memorabilia (and not Chocolate box decorations).
I hope that I'm not breaking any forum rules by doing this - please advise if I am...

Helen,
Yes i've seen your photos on the other thread too - very good! I gathered that the young Cpl chatting to Mountbatten was your dad - and not vice versa
Good luck,

Stephen,
Okay, I'm getting a clearer picture now - can't say I've ever seen the 1st issue.
Thanks for clearing this up for me - sorry for being so obtuse.

John,
I call only suggest that the factory that made berets would have mass produced the 'inner' and these would then have been attached to the 'outer'. So when The Green Beret was introduced they just took some off the shelf and sewed them in - one brand new Green Beret marked 1940!
As you say, we'll never know for certain.

Nick
