Kim and I are leaving home any minute and will be there in about an hour. Hope to see some familiar faces.

Thank you both, you're gems!
Sorry for appearing thick but what does War Substantive actually mean please? He was wounded so could it also mean that (as Nic said)? Also should I include the 'W' on the records form?
Sorry for so many questions but want to get it right before sending off the forms.

I am currently completing the forms to send off for my Dad's army records and am confused about his rank. On the Cdo Service Certificate his rank shows as Bombadier Edwards but I've also found a small 'Record of Service' card which gives his service number and shows his rank as 'W/Bdr'. What would the 'W' stand for please?
Also the card shows Regt/Corps as HAA (?) from 8/5/41 to 27/11/46. The 'Request for Service Details' form asks for his Regt/Corps on Discharge. Would this be HAA and not No 2 Cdo? (I seem to remember something about soldiers returning to their original units before being demobbed).
Any help greatly appreciated please.

Does anyone know of something called 'Z' call up please? My Mum said my Dad was 'called up' for 2 weeks in 1952 (stationed somewhere in England) and she said this is what it was called.

Bob and Janet at the Alex on Saturday night (8/11)

I first met Bob and Janet at FW in 2007 (after corresponding by email for the previous 3 years) and was delighted to get together with them again this year (bringing my partner, Kim, with me this time). Bob was such a joy to be around, a real gentleman (but with a mischievious twinkle in his eye!). He included a piece about my Dad in his 'History of No 2 Commando' and also sent me a paperback copy, which I will cherish. I still have trouble believing he's actually gone but I have a feeling he'll be watching over the CVA to keep us all in line!
God bless you Bob - I feel like I've lost my Dad all over again.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Janet and the family
With much love and affection

Hi Dan
I have 2 questions please.
1. Is it possible to attach a photo to a private message? I couldn't see any instructions but maybe I missed them.
2. I'm having trouble sizing a couple of photos I want to put on the gallery and wondered if you could help please. (If you're the gentleman I met in FW in November - I was with Bob and Janet - then I think I've already emailed the photos to you asking for help).

I've been going through some of my Dad's army papers and came across an interesting little French phrase book (well its more a double sided card folded down to pocket size). Its full of useful phrases like: Hide me; give me some civilian clothes, I am wounded, could you nurse me? There is also a list of 'sentences every man should know by heart' like Where is...? How many...? Please and Thank you. Its a fascinating little piece of memorabilia and I was wondering whether to loan it to the Spean Bridge Museum. Has anyone seen one of these before, maybe they're very common and the Museum has already got one?
I've tried scanning it in and can only get a clear image of the front page, the rest is too grainy to read.

Can anyone tell me whether I need permission to add a cross (or maybe a plaque) to the Memorial Garden in remembrance of my Dad, Bernard Edwards (No 2 Cdo) please? I was up there last month and saw the garden for the first time - very moving. I'm going back for the Remembrance weekend and would like to take the cross/plaque with me.
Thank you
