Dear Members,

The Belgian Commando Museum illustrates the history of the 4th TROOP of N° 10 Inter-Allied Commando raised in Great-Britain in 1942.

Since the begining its motto was : "United We Conquer" a motto we assume that the Unit tooh from the British Commando.

We would like to know which British Commando unit has first taken that motto and who decided to chose it.

Sincere thanks
Pete

Was this not the motto of Combined Operations Command as can be seen here:

God and the Soldier, all men adore, In time of danger and not before.
When the danger is passed and all things righted, God is forgotten, and the Soldier slighted.

Hello

'United We Conquer'

The origin of the motto seems to be a derivation of 'United We Stand Divided we fall'
While I doubt that the specific phrase "United we stand, divided we
fall" is in the original Aesop, it appears that the idea is often
traced to his fable, especially in light of the translation of the
"The Four Oxen and the Lion" and the similar "The Bundle of Sticks"

Motto like this have been used throughout history Eg Revolutionary idealists etc.

I hope this helps a little.

Regards
