During my recent holiday to Wales in May 09, I popped into our local for a swift half but, as the bar area was crowded, my wife and I decided to take a seat for a change.
We chose a seat next to a bookcase filled with second hand books that had been donated to the pub to sell on with all the proceeds to go to charity.
I asked Sue to read the title of one rather old book and she read " The Greatest Raid of all, by C E Lucas Phillips"!
I grabbed the book from her, it was in perfect condition and looking at the fly leaf it told me it was issued in 1959.
The book next to it was "The Phantom Major, by Virginia Cowles"
(about David Stirling & the LRDG and the SAS) this too was issued in 1959 and is in excellent condition.
What a great find and two worthwhile charities get a good donation too.
