It is with sadness that Colin Henderson advises us of the death of Leon Gautier on the 3rd July 2023 aged 100. Leon was the last surviving member of the 177 Commandos of Kieffer Commando who landed on DDay at Normandy.
Pete Rogers, son of LSgt Joe Rogers MM & nephew of TSM Ken McAllister. Both No2 Commando.
God and the Soldier, all men adore, In time of danger and not before.
When the danger is passed and all things righted, God is forgotten, and the Soldier slighted.
On behalf of our No 4 Commando families and friends we are sorry to hear the sad news about Leon Gautier may he rest in peace. We give thanks for his service and for our freedom and for the way he upheld the memory of his comrades so they will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this sad time. May they have God's richest blessing and comfort in the days to come and wonderful memories to hold forever in their hearts. Son of Gunner Bill Harvey No4 Commando who was killed in action on 1 November 1944 when liberating Flushing. "Their deeds shall live from age to age. They've writ their name on History's page. Upheld their glorious heritage. The Fighting Fourth Commando."
