Hi
I?m hoping someone can shed some light on my grandfather?s 1939-1945 service record. I never met him and he was estranged from his family for many years before his death in 1984. He was born in 1919 and the 1939 England & Wales Register shows him as a Builder's Labourer so he must have joined up in wartime.
My mother knows little about his service (and given her advancing years it?s often of uncertain accuracy.)
She believes he was in Asia, and since he was from Plymouth I think 3 Commando is a likely unit for him?
I haven?t been able to find any records at all for him online, all I have are these two photos. In one I think it?s a Royal Marine Commando cap badge, and in the other a RM Commando Signals cap badge.
Thanks in anticipation.
