Please Help Identify My Grandfathers Service Number.  XML

Hi Everyone

My Grandfather was caught underage in the army and later rejoined under an aliases which we cannot positively identify now.

if anyone knows which name he enlisted under, his service number or if there are any other pictures of him during his service which can be shared that would be amazing.

below is a list of key dates and regiments and awards taken from his diary.

Name : George Colin Stanton

1938 :Joined Army Cadet Unit (Bagpipes) Signal House Fulham side of Putney Bridge


Cadet Company of the London Irish Rifles

1939

Age 15

30/11/1939 Mitcham enlisted with the Irish Guards

several months later discharged due to age.

Changed name to Mc Diarmid

rejoined the Irish guards

1940 Served in Norway 1st Battalion ( Age 15 1/2)

Independent Companies Forerunners of the Commandoes banded together

Became part of No2 Commando trained Scotland, wales, and England until March 1942

Mounted raid on St Nazaire

Rank Sergeant

Raid resulted in the loss or capture of many of No 2 Commando

transferred to No3 Commando

No3 Commando operation to Middle East

Transferred to Special Air Service ( Under Colonal David Stirling)

Involved in Activities in Libya, Yugoslavia, Albania, Greece and Italy,

Commissioned and Awarded the MC and French Goix de Gurrre for actions in Italy
& Crete

1944

Returned to England to join 2nd SAS Operations in France

Injuries to Left Hip During Drop into Occupied France.

Rescued by French Resistance fighters Maquis

Escaped to Spain, Barcelona, Returned to England via Gibralta

Became a teacher of Demolition & Enemy Weapons

1944 D Day ( Attached to 1st/ 6th Queens Royal Regiment ( Observer of Enemy weapons

SAS Disbanded due to Japan Surrendering

Returned to England with the "Queens" Duncombe Park, Helmsley, York

24/12/1945 Queens Battalion reformed prior to it's departure to Egypt

Captain / Acting Major

Camped at Tel el Kebir Egypt

Mountain Warfare mountains above Tripoli, in the Lebanon and near the villages of Blarram
and Bziza near Aminsan. Trained Gurkas
