Hi All,

I am hoping someone can assist my best friends Grandfather served in the Royal Marines on D-Day Arthur Sydney Jones. He has his medals and wants to frame them but does not know his service number however I think I have found it PO.X111467. I have not seen serviced numbers in this format before. Would someone be able to confirm if this is correct and Im curious as well why its so long and prefixes before the start of the number.

Regards

This article about RM numbers should help:

Unlike today in WW2 not all Royal Marines were Commandos. Do you know which Unit he served in ?

Pete Rogers, son of LSgt Joe Rogers MM & nephew of TSM Ken McAllister. Both No2 Commando.
