First BlackMan to win the Green Beret

Hi, I represent group of Black former Royal Marines who are researching the above topic. Whilst we recognise that there might of been other people of colour we will not exclude them but our primary focus is on Black men be they from the UK or from the commonwealth. We are particularly interested in the period 1942 -1947 as we already have evidence of a Black Royal Marine who joined in 1947. Our question is given that many from the commonwealth and those born in the UK answered the call, did Black men serve in the Royal Marines during the war and the specific period mentioned (the period when the Corp adopted the green beret).

We have contacted the various RM and RN depts and organisations with the RMA do far been the most successful.

Our hope is that within this forum someone might have a memory, story or photo that could assist our research. we would be appreciative of any information shared with us.

We believe that it is an interesting story in its own right and also one that could be of value to the Modern day Corp.
