Hi

I have just been loaned this photograph by Teresa Fitzgerald, whose father (Eddy Fitzgerald) served with No1 Commando. Teresa told me that her father removed this photograph from the body of a dead Japanese soldier after the battle of Hill 170. Teresa has also had the Japanese inscription on the back of the photo translated, which reads "Standing with my friends".

Cheers Andy

hi andy

That is an amazing and historic photograph ...even its condition is evocative
and asks so many questions when you look at it ..thanks for posting it up .

As one of my interests is aviation i did some restoration work to try to find any markings badges of rank or even what the maps ore of .i attach the repaired image for you ... the original image will eventually degrade without correct storage etc ...

once again cheers

Hi Steve

That is an absolutely superb piece of restoration work you have carried out there and in such a short time period. If I hadn't already have had my father's raid photo repaired I would be definately be taking you up on your offer to repair it, very impressed!

Cheers Andy
