Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me.

I've just started looking into where/who my grandad served with during world war 2. All we know is that he was in the Royal ?Marines (as far as we know) and he was stationed on Gibraltar at least at one point. He was also involved in D Day. Like many veterans he never talked about his experiences, so this is all the information I have.

I have attached a photo we do have. Any information anyone has would be massively appreciated.

I am planning on applying to the MOD for his records but if anyone recognises the regiment or can give some insight that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Where in Wales are you?

The photo shows Royal Navy ratings wearing Blue RM berets, I would suggest the photos were taken after July 1943 as the berets were introduced around then.

I have heard of RM wearing naval rig however I don?t know how true this is.

Apply for the records and post on here. There is plenty of knowledge on here to assist.

Post any photos or notes they all hold clues.

Hi, sorry I don't know your name, but I have cropped the photos to help identify your granddad as the group were obviously having a laugh and swapping hats.
Can you confirm that the cropped photos show your RM grandfather...
